Thank you to Thomas Jia and Jarraga for supporting Community Support Centre Innisfail on our Cultural Capability journey. Thomas provided place-based cultural capability training with staff and Committee members that was engaging and thought-provoking. Through further workshops Thomas has assisted us to reflect on skills, knowledge, and strategies to apply in the workplace to create a more culturally safe environment. We now have a CSCI Cultural Capability Framework and Action Plan that will ensure our continuous improvement and implementation of culturally safe, sensitive, and capable practices.

We had Thomas come in and work with True Child & Family Service earlier in the year. We were keen to find a local cultural consultant to work with us to explore our cultural capacity and deeply reflect on issue such as cultural safety. JUTE Theatre Company engaged Thomas Jia of Jarraga to work with us to develop a Cultural Capability Action Plan. The Culture and Place-Based Workshops were beautifully guided by Thomas whose genuine love of passing on knowledge and engaging with a broad range of team members and board members worked well to set up for the development of the plan.

In May 2024, True Relationships and Reproductive Health staff participated in Jarraga’s one day place based cultural capability workshop. The workshop was informative, interesting, and engaging. Staff were provided with important local knowledge that enriched their learning. They were supported to generate practical ideas that they will implement into their workplace to increase the cultural capability of their services. Thank you, Thomas, and Karen.
