Culture and Place based Learning

What is culture and place-based learning?

Indigenous knowledge connects learning to specific places. and relationship to place. Culture and placed based learning connects people with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge, histories, values and customs.

It is an approach that takes a person/organisation/business location as a context for engaged learning, and to connect to the local place.

It is an approach which facilitates dialogue on relationships that existed historically and the impact of these relationships in present day.

It is an approach that recognises Indigenous sovereignty and decolonising our relationship to places and new place stories.

We explore the benefits of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander led place based learning and ensure the programs are grounded in Indigenous knowledge and connections to place.

We cannot speak about place unless we speak of
the people who have lived in this place since Time Immemorial
